Modern speaker design demands more efficient spatial arrangement of components, higher performance, and lower weight. In response to these increasing demands, B&C Speakers introduces the compact sibling of the groundbreaking DCX464 driver, the coaxial driver DCX354.
The midrange driver covers a range from 400 Hz to 6 kHz with a sensitivity of 111.1 dB. Extended low-frequency coverage is made possible by the patented membrane shape, which is separated from the outer diameter during higher frequencies. The 76 mm (3") voice coil handles up to 180 W of power, while the 51 mm (2") coil on the high-frequency section is driven by 100 W and covers from 5 – 20 kHz. The redesigned integrator for the midrange section allows both membranes to work in perfect harmony across a wide frequency spectrum, achieving higher combined efficiency with appropriate crossover frequency. All energy is channeled through a 1.4" throat exit, making the complete system one of the most compact in its class.
The DCX354 driver is not just a scaled-down version of an existing product; entirely new mathematical modeling techniques were assembled during development. These techniques led to the invention of a brand-new way to evaluate numerous potential membrane shapes in a single day. Field experience and customer testing resulted in a series of redesigns and design modifications. Testing in unusual operating conditions led to the current compact design with the same attributes as the original model.
