2-channel transformer-based balancing and isolation unit, DI-BOX
The Rane BB 22 is a balancing interface, also known as a DI-BOX. It is a professional device used to separate and convert signals between unbalanced consumer audio lines and balanced professional equipment lines. It converts unbalanced -10dBV from RCA connectors to balanced +4dBU with XLR connectors. The BB 22 converts one pair, thus it includes 2 RCA connectors and 2 XLR connectors.
Unbalanced signal cables should not exceed a length of 3m to avoid distortion and noise induction. The BB 22 allows signal conversion to balanced, which can be transmitted over significantly longer distances without concerns about loss of quality.
By using only passive, high-quality transformers for signal conversion, the BB 22 does not add any noise or interference to the signal.
The BB 22 can also be used in reverse (balanced XLR to unbalanced RCA signal), in which case an XLR F - XLR F adapter is required.
